Certificate in Applied Small Business Growth & Development (CABG) Book course
Programme Overview
The Certificate in Applied Small Business Growth and Development (CABG) course is a practical Level 5 programme that is designed for people who are in business or who have completed a business plan.
This course is offered by Te Wananga o Aotearoa (TWOA).
The CABG programme is a qualification that will provide you with:
- Key skills and knowledge to develop and implement strategies / action plans to achieve business development goals and projects for your business;
- An experienced Business Mentor to guide you through the Programme and provide you with business coaching and support;
- Comprehensive programme resources; and
- Flexibility – CABG is part-time and can fit around your business/work and life schedules.
Programme Content
The CABG programme consists of the following three modules:
Business Development Analysis
The main purpose of this module is to develop the participant's ability to analyse their business in relation to the desired future position of the business. Participants will use tools that will help identify internal and external issues, challenges and opportunities for business development. They will also set goals and develop strategies as well as identify business projects that they can implement.
Business Implementation Projects
In this module, participants will work on the business projects that they have identified in the previous module i.e. they will put their business plan into practice.
Business Reports and Presentations
Participants will have the opportunity to develop their presentation skills and prepare business reports. Participants will also analyse a case study to present. This analysis will include identifying internal and external issues and challenges as well as opportunities and solutions for business development.
Entry Criteria
Applicants must:
- be 16 years or older at the start of the programme;
- be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents;
- demonstrate, via an interview that they have a sound knowledge of their business and the industry in which it operates, and that they are both ready and committed to implement growth and / or development plans; and
- meet at least one of the following 3 criteria:
- be graduates of the Certificate in Small Business Management (CSBM) Level 4 or equivalent; and / or
- possess a suitable business plan; and / or
- be already operating a business.
This programme is not available for international students.
Tuition and Resource Costs
There are NO tuition fees for the CABG programme. Participants will receive their own comprehensive set of resources including seminar handouts and a recently completed business textbook.
This course is offered by Te Wananga o Aotearoa (TWOA).
CABG Delivery
Length: 24 weeks
Format: Part-time and class-based. One three-hour session per week for Weeks 1 - 22, and two three-hour sessions for Weeks 23 and 24. Participants will also be entitled to 12 hours of one-on-one mentoring with their Tutor.

Start dates: Thursday 22 March 2012 at 6.00pm
