Certificate in Money Management (CMM) Book course
Programme Overview
The Certificate in Money Management (CMM) course is a practical Level 3 programme that is designed to give you the tools to reach your financial potential! The ability to manage money is an essential life-skill for all New Zealanders, regardless of age or income level. CMM will help you develop this ability.
This course is offered by Te Wananga o Aotearoa (TWOA).
The CMM programme is a qualification that will provide you with:
- Key skills and knowledge of how to manage your money.
- An experienced Tutor to guide you through the Programme.
- Comprehensive programme resources.
- Flexibility – CMM is part-time and can fit around your business/work and life schedules.
- Best of all, participants will develop a personal financial plan!
Programme Content
The CMM programme consists of the following four core modules:
Your Money and Debt Management
This module will help participants develop awareness of both their current financial position and money habits, and, of what they would like to achieve financially in the future.
Wealth Creation and Protection
This module is designed to help participants identify what they want, and need, for financial freedom or retirement and to provide them with the tools to reach those goals. Participants will be introduced to the various types of investments that can be used to help reach wealth creation goals. They will also gain an understanding of the use of trusts as a form of asset protection and key considerations involved in estate planning.
Property Investment
The purpose of this module is to introduce participants to key aspects of property investment so that they can make an informed decision as to whether this is an appropriate investment option for them. Participants will also develop an understanding of the types of property investments that are available, evaluate home ownership and renting options in a given situation and identify key issues involved with maintaining and selling investment properties.
Equity and Other Investments
This module will demystify key concepts relating to share markets so that participants can learn how they can effectively participate in this type of investment. Participants will also gain an understanding of general investment terminology as well as conduct a basic evaluation of a business for investment purposes.
Entry Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be 16 years or older at the start of the programme;
- Be New Zealand or Australian citizens or permanent residents;
- Be graduates of a Level 2 qualification or equivalent; or
- Attain competence in a numeracy and literacy pre-assessment.
- Attend an information session;
- Be committed to the hours required by the programme.
This programme is not available for international students.
Tuition and Resource Costs
There are NO tuition fees for CMM. Participants will receive their own comprehensive set of CMM resources including detailed lesson plans, modules and workbooks. This programme is available at no cost to participants.

CMM Delivery
Length: 20 weeks
Format: Part-time and class-based. Each module will be delivered by a Tutor, one 3 hour session per week and 10 hours of scheduled workshop time per module.
Location: Queenstown, Cromwell and Alexandra*
Start dates:
Semester A: Queenstown Wednesday 28 March 2012 at 6.00pm
Semester B: Queenstown Wednesday 11 July 2012 6.00pm. Cromwell Wednesday 11 July 2012 6.00pm. Alexandra Wednesday 11 July 2012 6.00pm.
*Intakes are offered subject to sufficient class numbers and are not always offered in all areas.
Potential Careers and Pathways
Advancement in your current job. Establishment of your own business. Graduates will be able to enrol in a TWoA Level 4 programme such as the Certificate in Small Business Management (CSBM) course.
